Why I am atheist and straight edge..?

Imagine life. In all its glory.

Its ups, its downs. Its brights, its darks.

A true work of art.

It’s like the Mona Lisa, or the Sistine Chapel. Beautiful. If you decided you didn’t like the bright parts, and wanted to darken them, or hated the darks, and wanted to lighten them, you’d fuck up the glorious awesome painting that is life. You wouldn’t be seeingthe painting the way nature intended. But this isn’t a great metaphor. If I were to fuck up the Mona, Everyone would be fucked up. That’s not how personal morality works.Life is like the Beatles. Fucking. Brilliant.Hands down, pristine form of pop music. You really can’t get better than the Beatles. Some people like the Beatles so much, they want to cover them. They’ll do a Pop-Punk version of Hey Jude, or a dance Remix of I am the Walrus, and that’sall good, if you’re into that sort of thing.Me, I am a Beatles Purist. I love to listen to the Beatles entire discography, no remixes, or covers. They made it right. You are free to listen to the covers if you want. I’m not gonna stop you, but trust me, the original is better. See, you can listen to the covers, and I can listen to the originals, because the original is still there. I can do mine, you can do yours. But if you decide that your indie-post-modern-hipster-rap-folk-autotune cover of Hey Jude, with most words changed, and with one verse left out entirely isthe Best version of the song, and try and destroy the original, so we all have to listen to your crazy cover, we’re gonna have problems. I’m not trying to stop all covers, I’m just trying to enjoy life the way it was supposed to be.So you can have your religion, and your smokes, and your beer, I will not partake. But if you force any of these on me, We’ll have problems.

Effect of alcohol on brain

Alcohol acts as a depressant to your central nervous system, which means whenyou drink it your brain cells communicate ata slower rate than normal. The limbic system of your brain, which controls emotions such as anxiety and fear, is also affected. As the function of your limbic system decreases, your inhibitions may disappear and you may become more outgoing and social. The functioning of your prefrontal cortex, a brain region associated with reasoning and judgment, also slows when you drink alcohol, leading to more impulsive behaviorand (combined) sometimes-poor judgment. At lower doses your body can still function under the influence of alcohol, but as the dose increases, so too do its effects. As you drink more, your behavior and judgmentwill become increasingly uninhibited, and your cerebellum, which plays a role in muscle activity, will also be impacted. This is why, as you become more inebriated, you may lose your balance, feel dizzy and definitely shouldn’t attempt to drive. At high doses, the neurons in your brain that control your heart rate and breathing may slow down their communication to the point that your breathing stops completely, leading to death.

Alcohol Leads to Different Effects in Different People
The same alcoholic beverage, whether it be a glass of wine or mixed cocktail, affects each person differently. Your body weight, ratio of muscle and fat, health status and even your genetic makeup will affect how much alcohol enters your bloodstream.Whether or not you’re eating will also affect this, as food in your stomach tends to reduce alcohol absorption. Interestingly, even your mood can affect how you feel when drinking alcohol, as it tends to make abad moodworse.Your mindset also plays a role, with research showing that even drinking “fake” alcohol can make people feel tipsy.

Alcohol is also the most commonly usedaddictivesubstance in the U.S. It’s estimated that 1 in 12 Americans suffer from alcohol abuse or dependence while several million engage in risky binge drinking patterns.

The straight edge movement

Straight Edge is more to many adherents than just music, more than posing at a show: yet determining just what sXe is beyond the style andmusic is difficult. Straight edgers are a very diverse group whose members interpret and live the movement’s core values in a multitude of ways. In many ways, subcultures are individualistic, heterogeneous entities.Social movements are typically distinguished from subcultures by their more formal structure, lesser emphasis on style, and focus on political change. Movements are organized, last for a specific period of time, and typically work for change from outside the political system. The sXe movement has no headquarters, holds no meetings, and keeps no membership list. There is no charter, mission statement, newsletter, or formal set of rules. The movement recognizes no leaders, collects no dues, gathers few resources, and rarely challenges institutionalized politics. Yet sXers around the world agree on a set of fundamental principles of the movement and act accordingly. The core values of clean living, positive attitude, resistanceto social pressures, and community transcend national boundaries, despite Straight Edge’s complete lack of bureaucracy. At the heart of sXe,punk rock, and many other youth cultures is a quest for individuality and individual expression. Members define themselves against a mainstream society which enforces conformity, crushing individual thought and action. Straight edgers do not “participate” in the movement in ways scholars typically think of movement participation: strikes, picketing, signing petitions, lobbying, writing letters, joining and/or maintaining an activist organization, civil disobedience, and other common avenues of social protest. Bound loosely by a guiding collective identity and united in theircommitment, sXers customize their participation to meet their own interests and needs. Commitment to a meaningful identity is fundamental to a variety of forms of participation.

What is straight edge

Straight Edge refers to a subculture of hardcore punk which was a direct reaction to the sexual revolution, hedonism, and excess associated withpunk rock. Since the late 1970s, straight edge hasbeen a part of the punk scene. During that time, a wide variety of beliefs and ideas have been incorporated into straight edge including vegetarianism, animal rights, communism. In many parts of the United States, straight edge is treated as a gang; however, recent studies suggest that only a small minority of the people who refer to themselves as straight edge are violent.

The symbol

The “X,” Straight Edge’s universal symbol, emerged in the early 1980s, when music club owners marked the hands of underage concert-goers with X’s to ensure that bartenders would not serve them alcohol. Soon the kids intentionally marked their own hands, both to signal club workers of their intentions not to drinkand, more importantly, to make a statement of pride and defiance out of not drinking. The movement appropriated the X, a symbol meant to be negative, transforming its meaning into discipline and commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. Youth wear X’s on their backpacks, shirts, and necklaces; they tattoo them on their bodies; and draw them on their school folders, skateboards, cars and other possessions. The X unites youth around the world, communicating a common set of values and experiences. Straight edgers find strength, camaraderie, loyalty, and encouragement in their sXe friends, valuing them above all else.A variation involving a trio of Xs, XXX, is often used in show flyers and tattoos. This can be usedto show that an adherent is extremely straight edge. Also, it can be ironic based on the fact that three X’s are a cartoon way to signify alcohol or poison. The term is sometimes abbreviated by including an X with the abbreviation of the term “straight edge” to give sXe.
Straight edge values

Throughout Straight Edge history, trends in the movement have come and gone almost as quickly as have Straight Edgers. Identifying a coreset of principles that spans time and geography is difficult because values change, each scene has its own flavor, and even individuals within thesame scene have different interpretations of Straight Edge. Straight edgers recognize that Straight Edge means something different to each person, assuming the identity and, as with any group, individual members’ level of dedication varies. However, while individuals are free to follow the philosophy in various ways, often adding their own interpretations, there is a set of fundamental values that underlays much of the Straight Edge movement: positivity/clean living, lifetime commitment to the movement and its values, reserving sex for caring relationships, selfactualization, spreading the subculture’s message, and involvement in progressive causes.T-shirt slogans, song lyrics, tattoos, and other symbols constantly remind Straight Edgers of their mission and dedication: “It’s OK Not to Drink,”“True Till Death,” and “One Life Drug Free” are among the more popular messages.
